Genevieve Garceau, MSW

My name is Genevieve, and I use She/Her/Ella pronouns. As a proud neurodivergent, queer, Latina therapist, I bring both my personal and professional experience to every situation. From these intersectionalities, I developed my values of compassion, transparency, collaboration, authenticity, and service which are essential pillars of my practice. As a transracial and international adoptee of color, my work centers around the impacts of trauma, especially for both transracial international adoptees (TRIA) and those affected by the intricacies of adoption. No matter what, I enjoy considering and helping to process the intersections and complexities in every situation. I am passionate about using my personal and professional experience to develop my cultural humility framework for an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed social work practice. I have worked with a diverse range of clients in various types of schools (elementary school and an adult high school), prison (women’s prison in Lockhart, Texas), and a family support and stabilization program. These experiences have allowed me to work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, self-injurious behaviors, impulsivity, suicidal ideation, trauma, substance use, generational trauma, and low self-esteem. I provide therapy that is informed by a strengths-based, client-centered perspective and other therapeutic models such as Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help individuals meet their needs. My work ultimately centers on healing one's relationship with the self, lineage, community, internalized narratives, and education regarding neurological stress responses. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Clinical Social Work with a certificate in Trauma from Boston College. I look forward to meeting you where you are at on this journey.
